Text of ad:

The engine the Salt Flats will never forget. The date: August 25, 1966. The pladce: Bonneville, Utah…a table smooth expanse of no-man’s land known to people in racing as the Salt Flats.

At stake is a question that bothers motorcycle men everywhere; is there a built-in limit to the speed of a two-wheeled vehicle? The four-year speed record stands at a phenomenal 230 m.p.h., a torturous test of man and machine. In the driver’s seat this day is Triumph dealer Bob Leppan, in a streamlined two-wheeler called Gyronaut X-1.

The engine? Triumph. The same engine type used in Triumph’s production model T120R.

What happens? A new record is set, at 245.667 m.p.h. – a remarkable blending of courage and ingenuity, and ultimate proof that the engineering skill of a Triumph stands at the top of the motorcycling world. See your Triumph dealer. Now!

1954: Triumph Terrier 150cc Motorcycle gets 152 mpg on Mobilgas in Dodge City Kansas

Vintage Triumph Mobilgas Ad – Available Here.

Triumph Terrier 150cc O.H.V. Wins Sweepstakes at the Dodge City, Kansas National Economy Trials with the amazing average of 152 miles per gallon. One hour, 10 min. on one quart of Mobil Gas.

Defeating 38 men, attractive 19 year old Jo Ann Bristow of Borger, Texas, rode a steady pace on her Terrier for one hour ten minutes around the Dodge City half-mile track covering 38 miles on one quart of gas for an average of 152 miles per gallon. Miss Bristow has been riding a motorcycle only 4 months, thus her spectacular victory is all the more impressive. She not only won her class but secured the best overall mileage for the sweepstakes award.

She used Mobilgas Special (the same as used by all other contestants) and a brand available at any Mobilgas station. For 76 laps (38 miles) around the track, Miss Bristow rode at an average of about 34 miles per hour.

Triumph 2-Page Ad – Buy It Now

Triumph has done it again. 15 out of 16 new speed records set in the 750cc class alone. What makes this feat even more remarkable is that this is the first time Triumph’s new three cylinder 750cc Trident has competed at Bonneville.

Setting records is a Triumph specialty. No one does it better. The world motorcycle speed record of 245.667 mph is held by Triumph, as are 29 other world speed records. And over the years, Triumph has set more speed marks at Bonneville than any other machine.

Triumph’s unrivalled ability to stand up to the gruelling challenge of Bonneville is a reflection of sound engineering, Painstaking attention to detail and a pride in craftsmanship. But just as important are the decades of experience that have been bred into the Triumph. Any machine you choose, regardless of size, enables you to experience the pure joy of riding and the certainty that it will behave perfectly umnder the most trying conditions. That’s what sets the Triumph apart from all the rest. The Triumph. A breed apart.
