1964 Yamaha YDS2 Ascot Scrambler and Yamaha YG-1 80cc

Yamaha wins races. Yamaha wins friends. The Yamaha YDS2 Ascot Scrambler pictured at top is the particular pet of Ivan “the Good” Oden. It is readily apparent that Ivan regards his Yamaha as something other than go-to-market transportation. As a matter of fact, the YDS2 carried him to the 1963 A.M.A. Class “C” Novice National Championship in the 250cc class. The strictly for competition Ascot Scrambler pumps 33 horse power out of the 250 2-stroke twin. Power enough to move its 258 lbs. plus rider down the straight at 90 MPH. Not a machine for everyone, but just right for Ivan and 219 Championship points.

The Yamaha YG-1, while not intended for flat-out competition, shares the spirited breeding of the YDS2. 80cc worth of single-cylinder, rotary-valve power propels bike and rider smoothly along at speed up to 60 MPH. The nicely spaced 4-speed box provides for lively acceleration. Fueling stops are few and far between with the YG1, and your pit crew can go on vacation. This 80cc bike is even tempered and trouble free. Even if you happen to have another bike in the garage, take a look at the YG-1. It’s the finest fuss-free ride that you can buy and only $340.00 P.O.E., Los Angeles.
